Estate Planning
Whether a client has a modest or a large estate, we find that our clients are keenly interested in seeing that the wealth that they spent a lifetime accumulating is preserved to be used wisely by future generations or other chosen beneficiaries. While many lawyers oversell the need for a “living trust” and probate avoidance, we work with our clients to develop a plan that makes sense for them, whether they need a simple or complex estate plan. We utilize trusts, lifetime giving plans, and charitable giving, among other techniques, to reduce tax consequences and achieve our clients’ objectives, with a strong focus on asset protection. We often assist owners of closely-held businesses in providing for transition in ownership to the next generation.
Estate Administration
We assist our clients with the often overwhelming process of administering an estate, including the preparation and filing of accountings with the Commissioner of Accounts. Our goal is always to ensure that the client’s estate plan is carried out fully in accordance with the client’s intent.
