Nicholas A. Nunes, an associate with the firm, focuses his practice primarily on litigation, employment, and landlord-tenant law.  Admitted to practice in both Virginia and Florida, Nick’s litigation experience allows him to obtain results for his clients while working to limit litigation costs and anxiety. 

As a litigator, Nick has handled diverse case loads ranging from assault to eminent domain.  While practicing in Florida, Nick represented Florida A&M University in two high-profile disputes with former athletic coaches.  Nick also represented the Florida Sheriff’s Association and numerous sheriffs’ offices in labor and employment law matters including harassment, discrimination, and contract disputes.  Nick also successfully defended Florida A&M University in an FLSA collective action, as well as in an appeal to the Florida First District Court of Appeal.  Nick is an aggressive litigator who is regularly in court and does not shy away when it comes to protecting his client’s interest.

Nick is admitted to practice in all Virginia state courts and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.  Nick has also been admitted to practice in all Florida state courts, as well as the United State District Court for the Northern District of Florida.  While practicing in Florida, Florida attorneys recognized that Nick was among the best young attorneys in the state.  In an award voted on by Florida attorneys, Florida Trend magazine named Nick a “2008 Legal Elite Up-And-Comer.”  The award was given to only 159 attorneys in the state, and Nick was one of the youngest to receive the honor.

Nick is a “native” of Newport News having moved here as an “Army brat” at age six.  Nick attended Menchville High School and graduated from Virginia Tech with Honors.  Nick graduated from Florida State University College of Law, where he received recognition in the FSU Dispute Resolution Competition as the “Best Client Counselor.”  In 2004, Nick was among a select group of students who engaged in a study in law abroad at St. Edmund Hall at Oxford University in England.  While studying at Oxford, Nick received academic accolades including a book award for his mastery of restitution and unjust enrichment.  Nick currently lives in Seaford, Virginia, with his dog, Jack.

Nick is active in the community and is the Vice President of the Kiwanis Tidewater Young Professionals Chapter.  Nick is also an active supporter of our military families as a member of the Association of the United States Army.  Nick serves on the planning board for the AUSA Annual Professional Development Forum, where he handles media relations and helps with the organization of the Fred Nunes Memorial Golf Tournament, which is held in memory of  Nick’s father to honor his service to the Association.  Nick is also a member of the Newport News Bar Association and the York County Bar Association.
